Cyclo-cross and Mountain biking are two very similar sports. In racing the main differences are the bikes and the length of time taken during races, Cyclo-cross is normally 1 hour in length, MTB races can go up to 3 hours!

Rich Matthews MTB & Cyclo-cross Pages
Hi, I'm Rich Matthews, and I've been riding MTB's and Cyclo-cross since 1990. I currently ride a 1996 Kona Hei Hei. It's been the bike of my dreams, and is now just over the 20lbs mark.

Love, Life and Laughter !!!

In this site, you'll find my favourite bikes through the decade, top stars of Mountainbiking and Cyclo-cross, and links to cool websites...may I recommend Yetifan as a top website for all you John Parker fans out there.

**New Information 16.05.02**

I'm currently building up my Trek 8500 into a singlespeed for my Wife and lightening my Hei Hei to see how far I can go...also, I'm planning to go to the Commonwealth Games in Manchester this Summer 2002...can't wait to see what the Brits will do, or the current World Champion Roland Green!!!

The Commonwealth Games was fantastic and our own Liam Killeen came in 3rd behind the Canadian Juggernaught

The Kona has been on a diet and now has spanking new Hope/Mavic wheels, Easton Carbon handle bars, USE Carbon seatpost and Tune carbon railed saddle...she might get to 20 lbs yet :)

**Trek Singlespeed Update**

The Trek is another step closer to being built up into a single speed, with the Nuke Proof Hubset built onto Sun Rims.

Check out the Weight Weenies website for superlight bikes!! :)

**Racing Update 4.10.02**

I'll be racing cyclo-cross on the 20.10.02, at Rainham, Kent.

**Race Results 22.10.02**

Well, for my first race back after some 9 odd years, I placed 44th out of 54 riders...not too bad I think. The course at Rainham was fast, and the pace of the front runners blew me away...still, I got into my own pace, and fought off feelings of despondancy. This will be the same course as to be used for the Final Round of the National Trophy event, so should be good to spectate. Hopefully see you there! :)

**National Trophy Final Round, Rainham Kent 15.12.02**

A great afternoon of racing at the Howard School venue, a very simular course to when I raced, but the weather conditions made for a very wet and muddy race, with lots of spills and thrills. Stuart Bowers (a cycling mate from years ago) did well to come in the top 15..and the eventual race winner, Nick Craig, did well to hold off the lead group of Barry Clark, Roger Hammond and Matt Ellis....

**Bike Update 16.01.03**

I've recently bought a Chris King Rasta Headset, after hearing nothing but good things about them...don't think there's too much more I can do for the Kona now...lighter pedals perhaps?
